Goat Coffin

Aussie Devil worshippers Goat Coffin take things in big satanic strides and are about to play their first live show, where you’ll be able to hear the formidable track, “ Burn At The Cross”. The legions of fans who have already succumbed to their brand of death metal are testament to their unwavering commitment to rituals, rehearsing and the Prince of Darkness.

We spoke to one half of Goat Coffin, guitarist and vocalist Sunny Leunig, who gave us his go-to eats and drinks in Melbourne’s inner North, and with characteristic modesty, named a sandwich after himself: “I'll go with the “Sunny Leunig”. My only way to achieve some kind of immortality. Selfish, I know.”

The “Sunny Leunig” recipe

Despite the profound intricacies and multifaceted nature of one's character, I find myself paradoxically drawn to the elegance of simplicity.

Freshly baked bread of your choice

Free-range poached chicken

Mayo

Some fresh greens (e.g. cos lettuce, spinach etc.)

Red onion

Dill

The sandwich mainly rests on the quality of chicken, mayonnaise and freshly baked bread.

Make it with a bit of love and devotion and you can't go wrong! Also, just make the chicken juicy and perfectly poached. Exercise restraint in the application of mayonnaise, as an overabundance could potentially compromise one's penchant for simple perfection.

Depending on how I’m feeling, I would serve with either a diet coke or a glass of Domaine Leflaive Montrachet Grand Cru (preferably from their 2017 vintage).

Where do you like to eat and drink?

Cafe: Aphro & Wolfe in Fitzroy North. One reason is because it's the least Fitzroy North cafe in Fitzroy North. Unpretentious, great coffee and not a vacuous cliched inner North type in sight that we'd feel compelled to sacrifice.

Pub/bar: For a pub, Marquis of Lorne in Fitzroy. Relaxed vibe on a Sunday evening with a great Sunday roast special. Additionally, one must acknowledge the unparalleled culinary delight that is Tuesday evening's steak night. As far as local bars go, I enjoy Amarillo. Great drinks list and atmosphere. Whoever's spinning records could play some occasional thrash metal though.

Restaurant: Tough question but I love Marios on Brunswick Street, Fitzroy, because it's been a local for years, I love seeing familiar faces and you can never go wrong with the amatriciana pasta. The perfect dash of chilli. Easy, simple and if Marios disappears, then the suburb of Fitzroy will die.
