Miniseries
Miniseries was conceived at the vibrant musical nexus that is the Betsey Trotwood pub in Farringdon, London, its members hailing from far-flung corners of the British Isles including Bury, Dublin, Ealing, Eastleigh, and Ilkley. Since forming in 2022, Miniseries have been passionately producing a captivating blend of psychedelia, indie rock, and a touch of Americana, with their new singles "Dandelion" and "Sepia" currently available for listening. You should definitely check them out if you have a chance! Come and meet the talented band members - Doug, Aidan, Danny, Dermot, and Angela as they share stories about their favorite eats and, of course, introduce you to their absolutely delicious Dandelion toastie, which has quickly become our favorite sandwich thus far - plus a great playlist to get into the Miniseries vibe.
The Dandelion
This one came from our guitarist, Dermot - who wrote the last single, Dandelion. It was a late night offering when we got back from playing Truck Festival in Oxfordshire earlier this year. I'd been driving so Dermot offered to whip something up at ours with the limited offerings we had in the house. Me (Doug) and Angie share a place with our friend Simon who runs the flour mill at the E5 Bakehouse, Hackney, so there's usually a crust of sourdough knocking about. He did a toastie with that, brie, kimchee, spring onion tips and sesame seeds. Totally blew us away.
Ingredients
Sourdough (white)
Brie
Kimchee
Spring onion tips
Sesame seeds
Butter
Sriracha to serve
Method
Take a couple of generous slices of sourdough and butter one side, layer brie and kimchee on the non-buttered side, sprinkle with spring onion tips and sesame seeds and put the top on - butter facing out. Place in a hot skillet and weigh down with something heavy - we used a guitar of course but it could be another weighty pan. Cook until golden on that side and then flip and repeat. Serve with a drizzle of sriracha for an extra kick.
What drink is best served with your sandwich?
A cold, punchy New England style DIPA
Where do you like to eat and drink?
Cafe: Number One Cafe, Well Street, Hackney, London
It's our local greasy spoon and who doesn't love a greasy spoon? The go-to order is cheese omelette with chips and beans, mushrooms if we're pushing the boat out, cup of tea and white toast. A lovely morning-after remedy. This spot has extra cred points as it's the location used for Dushane's meeting spot in Top Boy.
Pub/bar: The Betsey Trotwood, Farringdon, London
We're biased about this one. It's our rehearsal spot and home-from-home. It's a musical nexus - home to a burgeoning indie, folk and Americana scene. There is always a brilliant atmosphere and great tunes. The place also hosts comedy and comedians use it as a spot to test out new material - Henning When is a regular performer here.
The food is spot on pub fayre - you have to try the pies. Also the chef is Malaysian so there's usually a great curry on - a rendang or some such. Great food, great music, decent beer and the best people. What more can you ask for?
Restaurant: Bundobust, Manchester
I'm originally from Bury, Lancashire so Manchester is the place I cut my teeth musically. I always love going back. Yes, this is a chain place. I could have opted for loads of fancier, brilliant places but this is an everyperson option. Extremely reasonably priced vegetarian Indian street food which really suits a half veggie band. Fantastic food and always an incredible beer selection.
